We're delighted to welcome Matt Large, Owner & Winemaker of Praeter, for the next event in our Masterclass Series.
Praeter was founded by Matt Large in 2018, born from a desire to explore and better understand Nebbiolo in Australian soils and climates. While working with Nebbiolo across both hemispheres, Matt continued to build his winemaking career in Australia, working with some of the country's leading Chardonnay and Pinot Noir producers, most notably Shaw and Smith and Tolpuddle Vineyard.
In 2024, Matt stepped away from his role as Senior Winemaker at Shaw + Smith to return to farming grapes and focus on Praeter full-time. This pivotal decision, together with the 2025 harvest, marked the release of Praeter's first Chardonnay and Pinot Noir bottlings, as well as the first wines produced from fruit farmed specifically for the Praeter label.
Today, Praeter is committed to farming ever-better fruit and celebrating distinctive, high-quality vineyard sites across the regions in which it works. Through a dedication to thoughtful viticulture and sensitive winemaking, Praeter continues to learn from each season and share those lessons through every bottle. What began as a pursuit of Nebbiolo has evolved into a lifelong commitment to site, season, and the craft of growing and making wine.

Policy for all events are outlined below:
Event Changes: If unforeseen circumstances require us to change or cancel an event, Mercato will happily reimburse the full cost of your ticket.
Cancellations: 7 days or more from event: Mercato will provide store credit equivalent to the full cost of your ticket for cancellations that occur from the time you purchase your ticket up to 7 days before the event.
Within 7 days of event: Event bookings cancelled within 7 days of the event date are strictly non-refundable.
