Made with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the Tenuta San Guido 2022 Guidalberto gives you a good taste of the same DNA that brings us one of Italy's greatest wines, Sassicaia, but it's offered in a more immediate style here (thanks to the addition of the Merlot). This warm vintage opens to medium-dark concentration and very plump aromas that take you immediately to blackberry and blackcurrant sitting out in the sun at your local farmers market. The wine shows a soft and gentle side with a pretty level of elegance transmitted through the fruit freshness and the light oak spice that is discernible here but delivered with grace. Producer Info: Tenuta San Guido is owned by the Incisa della Rocchetta family and located in Bolgheri. The estate is home to the world-class wine that started the Super Tuscan movement - Sassicaia. Mario Incisa della Rocchetta planted Cabernet Sauvignon vines on the land below the castle at Castilioncello in 1940, initially a personal affair the wine was consumed by the family, but the vineyard was expanded in 1965 and the first Sassacaia was released in 1968 to international acclaim. Today the estate has around 75 hectares of vines scattered around Bolgheri and their flagship wine, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc continues to impressive critics and wine-lovers. A second wine, Guidalberto, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese, was released in 2000."
