Luigi & Francesco
Founded in 1949 by Antonio Scala and now led by third-generation winemaker Francesco Scala, the Scala family remains deeply committed to preserving the traditions of Calabria's historic Cirò region. Despite modern appellation rules allowing international varieties, the family continues to champion native grapes such as Gaglioppo and Greco Bianco, producing wines that speak authentically of their place. Fermentation and ageing still take place in the same concrete tanks used since the 1950s, reflecting a philosophy rooted in tradition, patience and respect for the land. Surrounded by the rolling hills of Cirò, between the Ionian Sea and the Apennine Mountains, the estate farms organically and sustainably, crafting mineral, savoury wines that capture the character of Calabria's unique terroir. As Francesco says, "Without a doubt, the passion for wine and the love of the terroir are the foundation of this work."
