Producer Info: Matteo Correggia is a highly esteemed, family-run wine estate located in the town of Canale within the Roero appellation of Piedmont, Italy. Founded in 1985, the estate is globally recognized for almost single-handedly elevating the reputation of Roero's red wines (historically overshadowed by neighboring Barolo and Barbaresco). Today, the 20-hectare estate is managed by the late Matteo's wife, Ornella, and their children, Giovanni and Brigitta.

Giovanni Coreggia

Matteo Correggia was a pioneering figure in Roero, taking over his family’s farm in 1985 at just 23 and setting out to prove that the region could produce wines worthy of international attention. At a time when Roero was still largely agricultural and its wines were little known, Matteo focused on sustainable viticulture, quality and the potential of the region’s sandy soils. His work helped elevate Roero’s reputation, with wines such as Ròche d’Ampsèj becoming some of the first from the appellation to gain recognition overseas.

Today, the Correggia family continues his vision, with a philosophy centred on understanding and preserving the character of each vineyard. Their wines are made with careful attention to detail and minimal unnecessary intervention, allowing Roero’s elegance, freshness and distinctive sandy, mineral character to shine through. The estate remains particularly committed to Nebbiolo and Arneis, demonstrating the remarkable potential of these varieties in the hills of Roero.
