Castelvecchio is a historic estate rooted in the dramatic Karst landscape of Sagrado, where vines and olive trees have been cultivated since at least 1578. The Terraneo family has cared for the estate since 1986, dedicating themselves not only to its vineyards but also to preserving the historic Villa Veneta, surrounding park and cultural heritage of the property. Set on the first rise of the Karst, between the Alps and Adriatic Sea, the estate is shaped by its rugged limestone and red soils, dry climate and cooling Bora winds.
For the Terraneo family, Castelvecchio is as much about preserving a place as it is about making wine. Since 2013, they have followed sustainable, low-impact viticulture, with organic practices and a particular focus on the native varieties that have long been part of the Karst landscape. Vitovska, Malvasia and Terrano sit alongside international varieties, with indigenous yeasts and patient ageing helping the wines express the distinctive mineral, savoury character of the terroir.
