The Antonelli Family
Antonelli San Marco is one of Montefalco’s longest-established wineries, with the estate in the Antonelli family since 1883. Set across 190 hectares of rolling hills surrounded by woodland, the property is shaped by clay and limestone soils and a distinctive microclimate, with around 60 hectares planted exclusively to native Umbrian varieties including Sangiovese, Sagrantino, Grechetto and Trebbiano Spoletino. Today, Filippo Antonelli continues the family’s commitment to the land, producing wines from organically farmed estate-grown grapes and taking a thoughtful, hands-on approach at every stage of production.
The estate’s philosophy is centred on allowing the character of Montefalco and its native grapes to shine, combining traditional winemaking with careful, low-impact practices. Wines are vinified in the underground cellar using gravity rather than pumps, while organic farming and a detailed understanding of individual vineyard sites are used to preserve the natural identity of the fruit and terroir. The result is a distinctive expression of Umbria, with wines marked by structure, freshness and the savoury depth characteristic of Montefalco."
