Meet the producer
Nicola Bergaglio is a small, family-run estate in Rovereto di Gavi, where Gianluigi Bergaglio and his son Diego have dedicated themselves to one grape above all others: Cortese. Since the first estate bottling in 1970, the family has taken a refreshingly uncompromising approach, producing just two wines, both from their own vineyards and both vinified in stainless steel. Their 17 hectares sit around 300 metres above sea level on distinctive red clay soils rich in iron, with cooling breezes from Liguria helping to preserve the natural freshness of the grapes.
There is a quiet confidence to the Bergaglio philosophy: rather than manipulate Cortese, they simply give it the conditions to show what it can do. The result is Gavi with remarkable purity, mineral character and longevity, from the fresh, floral house wine to the celebrated Minaia, sourced from the historic vineyard beside the cellar. Bright citrus, green apple and white flowers lead into a precise, saline palate, showing the elegance and structure that have made the family’s wines a benchmark for Gavi.
