Gigliola is joined by her daughters, Viola and Sofia
Le Potazzine is a small, family-run estate in Montalcino founded by Gigliola Giannetti, whose vision was shaped by a belief in the potential of the region’s higher vineyards. In the late 1980s, Gigliola purchased land at around 530 metres above sea level, where limestone and clay soils, warm days and cool nights create ideal conditions for elegant, fresh Sangiovese. Today, her daughters Viola and Sofia work alongside her, continuing a family story that has become closely associated with finesse and purity.
The family’s approach is deliberately traditional and low-intervention, with native yeast fermentations, long macerations and extended ageing in large Slavonian oak. Certified organic and bottled without fining or filtration, the wines capture the lighter, more graceful side of Brunello, with vibrant sour cherry, wild berries, earthy notes and a subtle saline character."
