Meet the producer

Gravner is one of the most distinctive names in Friuli, built around Josko Gravner’s relentless pursuit of authenticity and a deeper connection between wine, land and tradition. Based in Oslavia, on the Slovenian border, the estate has become synonymous with a return to ancient winemaking practices, particularly the use of large Georgian clay amphorae, which Josko adopted after travelling to Georgia in the late 1990s. His philosophy is deliberately uncompromising, stripping winemaking back to its essentials and allowing the vineyard, grape and passage of time to shape the final wine.

Today, Gravner’s wines are made with indigenous yeasts, long macerations and extended ageing, with amphorae and large Slavonian oak playing a central role. The approach is one of patience rather than intervention, with wines given years to develop before release. Ribolla Gialla is at the heart of the estate, producing profound, textured wines that combine structure, minerality and remarkable longevity. For Gravner, this is less about following a particular style than rediscovering a more elemental way of making wine, rooted in nature, tradition and time.
