Scarpa is one of Piedmont’s great historic estates, founded in 1900 by Antonio Scarpa in Nizza Monferrato. From the very beginning, Antonio was driven by an ambition to reveal the quality and ageing potential of Piedmont’s wines, particularly Barbera, at a time when the region’s finest vineyards were still largely unrecognised. Over more than a century, the estate has passed through the hands of a succession of visionary custodians, each preserving a philosophy centred on patience, elegance and longevity. This unwavering commitment to quality helped establish Scarpa as one of the region’s most respected traditional producers, with a legacy spanning Monferrato, Langhe and some of Piedmont’s most celebrated native varieties.
Today, Scarpa remains devoted to the preservation of Piedmont’s viticultural heritage, championing varieties such as Freisa, Ruchè, Brachetto, Timorasso and Pelaverga alongside the region’s more famous grapes. The estate’s approach is guided by a belief that great wines should faithfully express their variety and origin, favouring traditional methods and patient ageing over fleeting trends. Its Pelaverga is a perfect example of this philosophy, capturing the grape’s distinctive floral aromatics, bright spice and effortless drinkability while celebrating one of Piedmont’s most charming and historically significant native varieties."
