Meet the producer
Founded in 2008 by the Empson family, Matané represents a new generation of Puglian winemaking, focused on revealing the freshness and character of Salento rather than the heavy, overripe style once associated with the region. Working among the peninsula’s rich red soils, limestone-rich terrain and abundant Mediterranean sunshine, the family embraces the native varieties of Puglia while taking a more restrained and contemporary approach.
The wines are made with an emphasis on balance, moderate alcohol and gentle extraction, allowing the natural character of the fruit to shine. Their Primitivo captures this philosophy beautifully, combining ripe dark and red berries with earthy herbs, floral notes and subtle spice, while fresh acidity and supple tannins keep the wine vibrant and inviting.
