Meet the producer
Andrea Farinetti
Founded in 1761 by Bartolomeo Borgogno, Borgogno is one of Barolo’s oldest and most historic wineries, with more than 250 years of family heritage woven into the story of the Langhe. The estate’s reputation grew significantly under Cesare Borgogno, who took over in 1920 and began exporting the wines internationally, while also embracing an extraordinary belief in the importance of time. He famously set aside part of the Barolo Riserva production, allowing the wines to mature in the cellar for decades before release. That patience and respect for tradition remain central to Borgogno today, where the historic underground cellars continue to hold wines and memories spanning generations.
Since 2008, the Farinetti family has continued Borgogno’s commitment to preserving its traditional identity, resisting the pressure to modernise for modernity’s sake. The estate’s wines undergo spontaneous fermentation in concrete tanks and long ageing in large Slavonian oak, while the vineyards are farmed organically with a focus on respecting the natural balance of the land. With vineyards including the historic Cannubi and Liste crus, Borgogno remains a powerful expression of traditional Barolo, built around the belief that great wine requires patience, restraint and, above all, time.
