Meet the producer

Arnaldo Caprai

Founded in 1971 by Arnaldo Caprai, the estate began with 42 hectares in Montefalco and a determination to realise the potential of Sagrantino, one of Umbria’s most distinctive native varieties. When his son Marco took the helm in 1986, he brought a new spirit of research and collaboration, working with agronomists, winemakers and research institutes to explore new techniques while remaining firmly rooted in the traditions of the territory. This pioneering approach helped put Montefalco Sagrantino on the international map, with the estate’s wines gaining recognition for their elegance, refinement and longevity.

Today, Arnaldo Caprai farms 160 hectares across the Montefalco DOCG, cultivating Sagrantino and Grechetto alongside Sangiovese and other varieties. The family’s philosophy remains centred on meticulous vineyard work, research and experimentation, balanced by a deep respect for Umbrian winemaking traditions. The result is a collection of wines that express the power and character of Montefalco while demonstrating the finesse and precision that have become hallmarks of the estate.
