Producer Info: Fourth generational family-operated business, Sordo Wines was established in 1912. Over 50 hectares of vineyards are worked between the Langhe and Roero regions producing premium wines from Barolo, Barberesco to Dolcetto d’Alba and Barbera d’Alba. Sordo Wines is the only winery making eight separate Barolo cru (French word for growth) wines. Not only is this unique, but the wines all show distinctive traits – because the winemaking is hands-off, allowing the terror of each cru to express itself in the wine. All vineyards are owned by the family that supply all of the crus except the Villero and Monprivato.
Sordo embodies a deep respect for nature and the surrounding environment. They control the green cover of rows using grasses and other plant species which, as well as consolidating the land and preventing it from being washed out by rainwater, increases the organic substances when planting; thus, eliminating the use of chemical fertilizers and weed killers. Sordo have also constructed high-quality wastewater depuration plant which allows them to return water to the land that prevents polluting.
