2018 Ca'Rome' Barbaresco 'Chiaramanti

Producer: Ca’Rome’

Grape: Nebbiolo

Region: Piedmont, Italy

Zone: Barbaresco

Producer Info: Ca’ is short for ‘casa’ – home. Ca’Rome’ is first and foremost home to Romano Marengo and his family. It may well be the spiritual home of fine Piedmontese winemaking. The Marengo family venture started in 1980, when patriarch Romano founded the company. Thirty years of wine industry experience gave Romano the impetus to produce his own range of wines, perfect his methods and pass them on to the next generation, who continues to carefully manage every phase of the production, starting with sourcing fruit from historic family-owned vineyards, and bringing these incredible wines to market with a highly contagious optimism. Family values – quality, honesty, respect for tradition, exploration, and international air – constitute the core of Ca’Rome’s mission.

A Sip With Mercato: A thing of beauty with an iridescent garnet rim and bright ruby core. You’re met on first whiff with sour cherry, orange bitters, and a hint of chocolate powder. The palate continues with plum and tart raspberry, balanced with a spice-coated tannin frame. A slight bitterness in the finish for now, we expect it will all come together for a perfect drop from 2024. Pairs well with juicy lamb dish.

Production:  The vines grow between 270 and 300 meters above sea level. The grapes were hand harvested, destemmed, and macerated for 20 days at controlled temperature. The wine was aged in 25 hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels for 20 months and spent 10 months in bottle before release.

Alcohol (%): 14.5 – 15.5%
