2017 Ca'Rome' Barolo 'Rapet'

Producer: Ca’Rome’

Grape: Nebbiolo

Region: Piedmont, Italy

Zone: Barolo

Producer Info: Ca’ is short for ‘casa’ – home. Ca’Rome’ is first and foremost home to Romano Marengo and his family. It may well be the spiritual home of fine Piedmontese winemaking. The Marengo family venture started in 1980, when patriarch Romano founded the company. Thirty years of wine industry experience gave Romano the impetus to produce his own range of wines, perfect his methods and pass them on to the next generation, who continues to carefully manage every phase of the production, starting with sourcing fruit from historic family-owned vineyards, and bringing these incredible wines to market with a highly contagious optimism. Family values – quality, honesty, respect for tradition, exploration, and international air – constitute the core of Ca’Rome’s mission.

A Sip With Mercato: Ready for something a little exotic with impeccably balance tannins? Aromas of cherry liqueur, turkish delight and fresh walnuts turn to spice notes on the palate which tend to overpower the more delicate sweet cherry, pomegranate and ripe strawberry opening aromas. Additions of coffee and toffee apple add to your fulfilment on the palate. Give this one time to ready itself for you, opening after 2023.

Production: The grapes were hand harvested, destemmed, then macerated for about 20 days at controlled temperature. The wine was aged for 24 months partly in 25 hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels. It was further aged in bottle for another 12 months.

Alcohol (%): 14.5 – 15%
