Product: Muscular and dense, it has a dusty nose with sweet spice, blackberry and dark plum fruit, along with herbal characters adding some savoury nuance. The prominent tannins are silky soft and balanced by penetrating acidity. The mid-palate is fleshed out with juicy, ripe red cherry and blackberry flavours, rich wet soil, fresh tobacco leaf and a lick of spicy cedar, a signature feature of Ca’Rome’.

Producer Info: Ca’ is short for ‘casa’ – home. Ca’Rome’ is first and foremost home to Romano Marengo and his family. The Marengo family venture started in 1980, when patriarch Romano founded the company. Thirty years of wine industry experience gave Romano the impetus to produce his own range of wines, perfect his methods and pass them on to the next generation, who continues to carefully manage every phase of the production, starting with sourcing fruit from historic family-owned vineyards, and bringing these incredible wines to market with a highly contagious optimism.
Today, his dream lives on with his children Giuseppe (known as Pino), Paola, and Maria, all working together under the watchful eye of their mother Olimpia. Family values – quality, honesty, respect for tradition, exploration, and international air – constitute the core of Ca’ Rome’s mission. The Marengo family’s vineyards stretch across five hectares, spread between Barbaresco and Serralunga d’Alba, where the Barolo Rapet and Cerretta grow on sixty-year-old vines, passed down by Romano’s mother Maria, whose name and portrait now adorn one of the Ca’ Rome’ Barbaresco DOCG labels.
